Vintage 1987 Emmett Kelly Jr Sad Hobo Clown Weary Willie Sculpture by Esco "Why Me?" Chalkware Bust. This is a large and heavy sculpture measuring approximately 12” tall by 9.5” wide and 7” depth. Overall good vintage dated 1987 shape no cracks or chips. A charming slice of Americana wrapped up in the most famous of Clown Statues. Made in 1987 by Esco, this is probably the most expressive Emmett Kelly Jr rendition. With his tattered hat and jacket we see elements reminiscent of a time gone by...perhaps Willie had seen better days and was a gentleman. His face has a very realistic quality and even the texture of his hair can be seen and felt -- a sculpture that captures the depression era completely. The sadness and despair are palpable and yet there is something comforting about this down on his luck character...you sense, with all of this, better days are ahead...
