Story Magazine March-April 1944, featuring "Aftermath of a Lengthy Rejection Slip" by Charles Bukowski.
This is Bukowski's first publication of a literary piece.
New York: Story Press, 1944. Vol. XXIV, March 1944, No. 106. 104 pp. Wraps.
The magazine is in Very Good condition, with some light creasing and soiling on the front and back covers. There is some sun fading on the spine. This is a former library edition, so the cover has a library stamp, and embossing, and there is the remnants of an address sticker on the front cover. There are a few more library stamps on the first few pages, but the inside is clean and bright.
This is the hard-drinking American poet and novelist's first trade publication, probably following a 1940 magazine called Write, of which no known copies exist. He was 24 at the time. After many letters with Whit Burnett, the editor published this story in the end pages of his widely-read, but poorly-paying journal.
Ships in a sturdy Gemini mailer.
